Review: Jan Serra / Segni Festival / Isola del Giglio
A journey of soul-searching and self-authenticity, highlighting the importance of reconnecting with nature as a pathway to inner unity, wisdom, and a deeper sense of identity. I really liked the circular arrangement of the audience. It created a whole new level of synergy between the actors, dancers, and the public. It was also fascinating to witness other people’s reactions and emotional journeys throughout the play. This reminded me of theatre’s original, ritualistic roots. That’s it — it felt like a ritual, and I wasn’t just watching it; I was immersed in it, part of a shared experience where the boundaries between performer and spectator dissolved into something collective and alive. One of the most memorable moments was a duet between two dancers featuring beautiful interactions and breathtaking lifts. The quality and delicacy of their movements deeply moved me. Their physical vulnerability and the trust they displayed in each other were incredibly powerful and emotionally resonant. The combination of movement, emotion, and song created a universal language that, at times, felt even more effective than words. The energy that flowed between the performers and the audience, the shared glances, and the element of surprise kept us constantly engaged. I especially appreciated the lighting design — it transported us to different emotional landscapes. I remember physically feeling cold when the Northern Lights appeared. The experience stimulated my mind with reflections and sensations. Throughout the piece, I kept thinking about the importance of authenticity and self-discovery. The message I took away was about faith in others, but most importantly, faith in oneself — a call for self-acceptance, connection, and honesty.
